Find Your Perfect Pink: A Blush Cheat Sheet for Every Skin Tone
The perfect blush should give your complexion a healthy glow, flattering your skin—never distracting. Pink is our pick for imparting the prettiest flush, and no matter your skin tone (or type) there is one that’s right for you!
Your Perfect Pink Blush Shade
Best Blush For Pale Skin
If there is one blush shade that seems to intimidate most, pink leads the way—from cotton candy pink to fuchsia, knowing which pink is best for you can be a daunting task. Not to worry, we’ve done the work for you and selected our favorite shades of pink from the hundreds we’ve reviewed. Special care was taken to present the prettiest pinks for those with fair to light, medium and deep skin tones.
Choosing the Right Type of Blush: Powder versus Cream
For most skin types, powder blush is a classic—easy to apply and the right formulas layer beautifully for those who desire a greater color payoff. However, some prefer the finish of cream blush, especially If you have dry skin (those with blemish-prone skin may find them problematic). Whichever you prefer, you will find options for both cream and powder below. Also, note that you can use both: apply powder blush, then dab on a bit of cream blush in a corresponding shade for added depth and sheen.
Fair to Light Skin Tones

If you fall in this range, opt for cooler-hued pinks and experiment with varying shades of brightness. Avoid pinks that lean orange, mauve, or peach—these are the trickiest to match to your skin tone. Look for pinks with these hues: Petal (pale pink), Hot Pink or pastel pink.
Powder:
- Bobbi Brown Blush in Slopes ($25)—Light, neutral pink that’s almost impossible to over apply.
- L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Blush in Baby Blossom C2 ($10.95) — A beautiful petal pink tone.
- Sonia Kashuk Beautifying Blush in Flushed ($8.99)—Sheer, but vibrant hot pink.
- Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dollface ($26)—Natural, flushed pink.
Cream:
- Revlon Cream Blush in Rosy Glow ($9.79)—Sheer, pale pink that applies smoothly.
- Too Faced Full Bloom Lip & Cheek Crème Color in Tea Rose ($21)—Nude pink and leaves a satin finish on skin.
- Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee* in Pink Escape ($22)—A cool, bright pink, has a wet, water-like feel. A perfect shade for fair skin!
*OK, technically this is a gel blush, not a true cream blush, but we still really love it.
Medium Skin Tones
Warmer pinks generally flatter most medium skin tones, and you’ll find that dramatic tones are easier for you to pull off than those with fair skin. Consider dusting a bronzer over your blush for a little extra glow. Look for pinks with undertones of strawberry, raspberry, rosy-gold, coral, or tawny (tan). Brown-based pinks can be great, too!

Application Tips
The most important guideline for flawlessly applied blush? Start sheer and build to the desired depth and intensity—it's easier to add color than it is to take it away! For powder blush brushes, those available from Sonia Kashuk (No. 02), e.l.f. Cosmetics, Real Techniques, and Bobbi Brown are perfect options for depositing pigment and buffing the color into your skin. If you apply too much, tone it down by dusting a bit of loose powder on top.
If you’re using a cream blush, dot three times along the upper apple of your cheek towards the outer corner of your eye (but keep the blush color two finger’s width away from the eye area itself). Blend out the color with your fingers or use a synthetic buffing brush to blend (those from Sonia Kashuk, Hourglass Cosmetics and Real Techniques rank as our favorites). Used a little too much? Stipple tinted moisturizer or foundation on top of your cream blush to reduce its intensity.
If you find that blush seems to fade away by midday, try layering a cream under a powder for longer-lasting results. Apply a little cream blush, dust with loose powder and then finish with your powder blush. Oily or breakout-prone skin? Apply a liquid cheek stain like Benefit’s Benetint, and follow with a complementary shade of pink-based powder blush.
